The Place to Speak, Be Heard & be Remembered!

by Amrein Dale A dangerous brain sickness that is constantly worsening is referred as Alzheimer’s disease. A persons memory is disappearing because the neurons and glial cells or the brain cells are degenerating fast. Early effects are on persons thoughts and manners which ruin career, leisure, and social life. This sickness gets worse as time goes by. The bad news is its one of the Americas primary causes of death. Tulsa assisted living facilities are technically trained to take care cares for Alzheimer patients.

Don Reo is the creator of Brothers . He’s done some good ones in the past, notably The John Laroquette Show and Blossom … and those two shows have something strong in common: they were both pretty dark. Laroquette , about a recovering alcoholic, started out pretty darn dark… and then got lighter, worse, and generally higher ratings as seasons went on. And Blossom — well, if you think you knew Blossom without seeing it, then you don’t know Blossom .

It seems that the swine flu pandemic has attracted many large pharmaceutical players towards the vaccine business, the latest being Johnson Johnson ( JNJ ). Yesterday, JJ; acquired an 18% stake in a Netherlands-based biotech company, Crucell NV, for $440 million. The deal will primarily focus on developing a universal vaccine for influenza treatment using Crucell’s genetically engineered antibody technology. Ray Salomone, Personal Trainer and Wellness Activist   I recently became aware of a new phenomenon in Senior Citizen social circles. Many events now require adherence to an important rule: No one can talk about the prescription medications they are taking. The premise being if one person started talking about it, the entire event would soon become consumed by the topic. I like this rule and I think it should apply not just to seniors, but across the board.

It started when Elan signed a deal with Johnson Johnson ( JNJ ) last July. But now, the two companies have amended this deal to drop the terms involving Tysabri. JJ; will now pay $885 million, down from the previously-announced $1 billion, for an 18.4% stake in Elan.

Are you searching for a way to live longer, feel younger, and have better quality of life as you grow older? We are now familiar with what has been termed the French Paradox, that refers to the low rate of heart disease given the dietary lifestyle in that part of the world. Eating more cheese, butter, eggs, and other fatty foods that would normally be associated with increased heart disease does not hold true there. Is the difference related to the amount of wine that is consumed? In America we eat the same fatty foods and possibly worse.

Most of my childhood was spent in West Philadelphia on Cambridge Street.  We were a city block of neat row houses all painted and bricked in a similar manner.  Back in the mid 1950’s and early 1960’s there were lots of children on Cambridge Street.  All the families knew each other and adults disciplined any child on the block.  For the most part, the kids were well behaved with a notable exception.  We all teased the old lady in the window.

To do this you need to have a new computer (2-3 years old) at least a Pentium 3, with a broadband internet connection. You also need to be confident enough to download and install a program called “ Folding@home ” from the internet and alter your anti-virus settings.

By Joseph Mercola, D.O. The common picture of a B12 deficient patient is an elderly person with pernicious anemia. But B12 deficiency may be caused instead by food-B12 malabsorption. Food-B12 malabsorption is the inability to release B12 from food or its binding proteins. Unlike pernicious anemia, it’s more likely to be associated with mild, preclinical B12 deficiency. B12 deficiency is common in elderly patients. One study revealed a prevalence of 12 percent among elderly people.

London, UK – There are diseases as devastating as dementia and Alzheimer’s. The erosion of the individual, the essential person that creates an individual, can destroy families and ravage generations. Though rarely fatal unto themselves such diseases kill the individual still inhabiting a living body leaving them a burden to their families and the medical care system. For many, the loss of the individual can cause more fear than even the devastating effects of heart disease and cancer, something that according to researchers will likely only increase in the years to come.

25 years ago, I worked in a nursing home as an aide/EMT. It was at once fascinating, and depressing. Fascinating because the people there had STORIES to tell. Depressing because many of them didn’t remember the stories. One of the residents was a man named Charlie. He was young, maybe 10 years older than me, suffering from a degenerative and debilitating nerve disease that gradually robbed him of every function except his mind. I didn’t know which was worse, slowly dying and knowing it, or being physically healthy and losing your mind.

Yesterday, as I wrote an 800-word rant on the state of things for this blog, some strange glitch happened on wordpress and I lost it all.  Lesson learned to always start out in a word document instead of directly online.  Basically it was an explanation for why we have been so quiet lately —- times are tough, we have no money, waiting for our 501c3 status to come through so we can find the money to do all these things we want to do, etc.  But instead, I lost it all and actually, I think that was for the best.

Let us take Broccoli, for example. Broccoli is probably one of the most nutritional foods on the face of the planet, yet many people dislike this green vegetable. Broccoli is high in most of the B vitamins and is both an antioxidant as well as an energy booster.

But if this piano wasn’t tied to my ass, I’d procure some postage, and send in a postcard to PostSecret .   And it’d go a little something like this:     “I’m 5?10?, and little old ladies always stop me in the grocery store to reach things up on the high shelves. I love it because it’s like seeing my grandma, and feeling good and helpful and loved. And there’s no baggage , and no guilt over the fact that I haven’t picked up a phone to call her in over 6 months.

If I can help people with mental health problems and their carers manage incontinence it means they are less likely to end up in care, they are treated with more dignity and they can stay independent for longer. I’ve found that 50% of people that we assess go away with an improved quality of life as a result of interventions and education.–Jane Spencer Jane Spencer, who works at the Calder unit, Fieldhead has been named Dementia Nurse of the Year.
