Researchers in the USA have discovered a potential new function for anti-epileptic drugs in treating neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The study, published in BioMed Central’s open access journal Molecular Neurodegeneration , found that neurons in the brain were protected after treatment with T-type calcium-channel blockers, which are commonly used to treat epilepsy. Calcium signaling pathways play a vital role in the survival of neurons in the brain.

Senior Care for Total Health and Well-Being I have been involved with senior care for many years, first as a pastor in a mainline church, then as one who has helped a friend care for her aging mother, now as a teacher of senior yoga and relaxation. It’s seems easy to offer help on our own terms, but it’s more rewarding (for us as well as for them) and ultimately easier for us to meet our older friends where they are. Meeting an older person where he or she is means first of all being aware of his or her history.

The famous FAD diet fo the century is the Atkins or High Protein diets.  Short term weight loss made these diets so popular that even the medical community has to take a second look. One new possible side effect of  this FAD-  high protein diet is believed to be neurotoxicity that can possibly lead to premature aging or alzheimers disease.  In a recent study published in Molecular Neurodegeneration , 2009, 4:40 (21 October 2009), animal studies involving mice that were fed with this kind of diet resulted in having brains that apprently shrank.  This clinically may therefore be relevant to the onset of forgetfulness in the long run to humans.

There has been plenty of debate as to whether or not cell phones have holistically upgraded our lives. And although this gadget has contributed significantly to our existence and industries, their negative impact still manages to negate their constructive qualities.   There were about 304.7 million cell phone units sold last year alone. Add that to the statistics of previous years and you’d be dumbfounded with the results. There are more than 203 million cell phone users in the United States alone.

Why does this not surprise me one bit? This is just like Obamacare that Congress has exempted itself of, instead opting to keep their gold-plated Cadillac benefits. Government-run healthcare does not lead to more choices, higher quality and lower costs. It leads to higher costs, bureaucratic red tape, diminishing quality and rationing. It also leads to absurd situations that from the outside sound medieval in nature. No government-run system embodies all that is wrong with the concept more than Britain’s National Health Service (NHS).
